Search

The whole of life is a search, Our entire journey a quest.

It could be in search of meaning, purpose, self, identity, worth, the divine, the extraordinary, the why, the how, the what, the if, the when, the where and the who. Whatever you call it, whatever you have come to name it. That deep longing that never goes away, like a deep-seated thirst for more.

Humanity is constantly in pursuit of something; Someone. An Essence, a Presence.

Like a feather drifting in the slowly blowing evening breeze. Knowing it may be in the wind, be carried by its breeze, but it is not a part of the element itself. It knows it comes from elsewhere, and though it has found some semblance of rhythm and harmony in floating; a sense of being, it still craves to be reunited to its source so it can serve its purpose. Whether in flight again on the wings of a bird of the sky, or as covering for a land bird.

In my opinion, one of the most difficult questions to answer on this earth is this one with three words “Who Are You?”

You might scoff and say “That’s so easy!” Then follow through by rattling off your name, origin perhaps, educational/vocational background, your achievements, accomplishments, talents, skills or whatever falls into the describe yourself category.

I used to be quick to answer too. Without batting an eyelash, I would go off. Until one of Ted Dekker’s profound questions leapt out of a story and sat heavily on my bed. And it has followed me around since then.

Imagine you fall asleep tonight, with plans and tasks to do as every other night, but wake up tomorrow with total amnesia. No name, no history, no past, absolutely nothing in form of a memory, not even that of falling asleep. Will you still know who you are?

That is quite an intriguing question, isn’t it? Somewhat frightening too, if we are being honest.

I believe humans are spirit beings, wrapped in physical bodies, dwelling in a physical world that is governed by a spiritual one. In essence, life is spiritual. And if we try to answer questions imprinted on our spirits and seared on our souls with the fleeting, temporal physical, we are only putting band-aid on a compound fracture. It is of no effect.

We are all searching for something; Someone. Whether we admit it or not.

It is a quest. Unlike a treasure hunt with a sole winner however, everyone has their maps and clues to guide them. No two routes are exactly the same. Everyone’s journey is insanely personal yet deeply rooted in the need for another’s help to get to the destination; Someone. What does this mean? We are all seeking to reunite with the source of our life, God. We each have a path laid before us called a lifetime, and our experiences are unique and peculiar to us as individuals. However, this destination must be reached. Either as one who has followed the map and clues or when the time is up. To be clear, I do not believe there are “numerous ways to God”/ “all faiths lead to God”, but I know everyone encounters God differently on their journey.

Derek Prince said there is a God-sized void in everyone that only He can fill. He put it there, only He can fill it up. Everything else tried in His place is temporary, ineffective and simply going against the manufacturer’s design.

“There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made know through Jesus Christ.” _ Pascal

I pray that you accept your mission. And search and seek with all your heart. For the One you seek is not so hard to find.

Love, Ballie💖
